You had to know it was coming. Eventually the candidates were going to have to pander to U.S. nationalist sentiment and talk tough about their neighbors: the hapless Mexicans and diabolical Canadians. It's tradition, you know. After being badgered by a journalist, both Obama and Clinton vowed to cancel NAFTA within six months of taking office unless it could be renegotiated. What the...? I thought this was a contract, signed in good faith. Now both camps have quietly approached the Canadian government with assurances that this is just election talk and not to be taken at face value. As yes... the usual defense. Hating Canada and Mexico is bound to get a few more votes from the wacked-out fringe who still blame the rest of the world for every U.S. problem.
