Early Gift

cam121108_early_giftCOL.jpgI'm sure Stephen Harper has been enjoying this week as much I have.  First, there was the fumbled coup attempt by Dion, which led to cries of 'resign now" within his caucus and to which he conceded. Then, there was the Michael Ignatieff versus Bob Rae standoff over who should lead the Liberals until May. It was like watching a soap opera parody. I didn't know which part to laugh at, or feel sad about.   That said, there seems to be stabilization within the Liberal Party now that Rae backed down and announced his intention not to run in the next Liberal convention. It was an odd thing, since Rae was the chief opponent to Ignatieff's "coronation" just 24 hours earlier.  The Liberals have a lot of work to do to convince Canadians that they're not as incompetent and power-hungry-at-any-cost as they appear to be. Michael Ignatieff can do a lot of good here and I expect him to shine. Then again, he's a Liberal. Really, how smart can he be?
