The Jumper

cam110508_jumperCOL.jpgThe period immediately following an election is often the most difficult for an editorial cartoonist. Once all the excitement and hoopla is over, it's back to same-old, same-old. To make matters worse, some cartoonists were so busy endorsing Obama with their propaganda-style renderings during the election, that they will be hard-pressed to criticize him during his tenure. I have a couple of cartoonists in mind and quite frankly, their worship, or should I say "veneration," dismissed them as credible political commentators. It is OK to have preferences, it's another thing to paint oneself into a corner, which is exactly what some have done. It will be interesting to see how they wiggle out when things hit the fan. Things will indeed hit the fan. The fan is always running and politicians are always hitting it.
