I'm not sure why anyone in their right mind would want to be the next President of the United States. Perhaps it makes sense from a patriotic, or pride point of view, but whoever gets voted in will inherit a bankrupt economy and a war. I can't remember a time in my lifetime where things looked as bleak as they currently do for the most powerful nation in the history of the world.
And here's the other thing: Whoever gets in will not be "the most powerful man on the planet." As I have spent years observing how things work, it is clear to me, now more than ever, that the people behind the military-industrial complex President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about, are really the ones in charge in the U.S. and consequently, the world.
A military-industrial complex can be defined as, “an informal and changing coalition of groups with vested psychological, moral, and material interests in the continuous development and maintenance of high levels of weaponry, in preservation of colonial markets and in military-strategic conceptions of internal affairs.” Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
It is clear that they run the show in Washington. In fact, between them, as well as some very wealthy bankers and other power brokers who have infiltrated Capital Hill, there isn't room for a President with "Change" on his mind. The last one who tried that was publicly executed in Dallas in 1963. Less than a year later, the U.S. was fighting a war in Vietnam and frankly, I'm getting too old and too cynical to believe in coincidence, especially when you consider that there is great debate on whether the USS Maddox took fire, or whether the whole thing was manufactured as an excuse for full-scale war.
I am not someone who buys into conspiracy theories because, quite frankly, they are often espoused by some of the wackiest people on the planet. However, I am increasingly aware that the things we are led to believe are just a diversion for what's really going on. There is a shell game going on and we are all being played for the idiots they know us to be.
The next pilot may shout "change" all he wants. Once he gets in the White House, the only change will be the floral arrangement on the bedroom drapes.
