Going Down

cam100108_going_downCOL.jpgStephen Harper recently claimed that what is happening in America is not going to happen in Canada. OK, technically speaking, he's right. Our credit standard is much more stringent. The subprime mortgage crisis, which is the primary contributor to the recent Wall Street bloodletting, will not happen here. But seriously, unless Mr. Harper thinks we are stupid, there is no way he can sell the concept that the magnitude of what is happening on Wall Street is not going to have a global impact. Since we live closer, with closer economic ties, you can rest assured that we feel a slight tug when the big ship goes down and it's going down fast. Stephen Harper's timing for this election could have been better. There is and always has been, a direct tie to how well the economy is going to the popularity of any government. I think he's deliberately misrepresenting the impact in an attempt to coddle voters into delusions of insulation. History teaches us otherwise.
